Mercy Aigbe was born on the 1st of January 1978, in Edo State, Nigeria, to Pa Aigbe and Mrs Abisola Grace Owodunni, as the second child of three children.

She had her primary education at Saint Francis primary school, and secondary education at Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School Ikeja, Lagos.
After secondary school, she went on to obtain an OND in Financial Studies from the Polytechnic of Ibadan, Oyo State. Mercy also has a degree in Theater Arts from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. She was once married to Lanre Gentry, and they are blessed with two children and three stepdaughters.

Although Mercy always had a passion for acting, her father had wanted her to become an accountant for her good knowledge of Math and science subjects. Her father always insisted that none of his children should be actors, and was devastated when she decided to study Theatre Arts. Mercy Aigbe said she had to beg and appease him with a goat in order to get his approval on her acting career.
Still, in the need to be in the good books of her father, she got a marketing job at a bank after her graduation. However, her passion was still in acting. This led her to resign even though she had a good job that paid well. She started acting in soap operas before going into Yoruba movies.
Mercy Aigbe made her acting debut in 2006, in a film titled Ara. Her magnificent role in the movie earned the attention of many producers, ushering her into a whole new acting level.
Since her breakthrough movie, Mercy has become one of the most popular and sought-after Yoruba actresses, and has been featured in a lot of movies.
Asides acting, Mercy is also a businesswoman with diverse sources of income. She has a fashion store called Mag Diva Boutique which she launched in November 2014. Mercy also has a skincare line called Flawless by Mercy, and an asoebi store called Asoebi Mercy.

Mercy Aigbe founded the MAG School of Drama in the year 2016. The school offers a 4-month training in acting, script-writing, movie making, stage management, etc. Students are under the tutelage of well-trained, and experienced instructors who help them build a solid foundation and develop the skills they need to succeed in the highly competitive Nollywood industry.
