The second way of making money is by promotion

This Promotion (the “Promotion”) allows users on the Mara Wallet waitlist (each a “User” ) to earn a referral reward of $1 (the “Reward” ). In this document, referring users will be known as “Referrers”, and referred users will be known as “Referees”. To be eligible, Users must send potential new users (friends, family, etc.) their unique referral code and convince them to verify their phone number and email address to earn a position on the Mara Wallet waitlist. Each instance of a successful referral—as described—will generate a Referral for the User (Referrer). The Reward will be in value locked for future use on the Mara Wallet once its transactional features launch (“Launch”). To fully unlock this value, the Referrer and those referred (I.e. the Referees) must later complete a KYC flow and fulfil any additional requirements as detailed by Mara at Launch.

This Promotion runs from 17 June 2022 10:00 AM EAT until a date to be later determined by Mara. This is called the “Promotion Period”.

The Referrer and the Referees must meet all the criteria during the Promotion Period. If these criteria are not entirely met during the Promotion Period, the Referrer will not receive a Reward.

Who is eligible for the Promotion?

Anyone who earns a position on the Mara Wallet waitlist by successfully completing email and phone number verification and is duly identified in either Nigeria or Kenya is eligible to participate in the Promotion.

What must a Referrer do to earn the Reward?

To earn a Reward, a Referrer must download the Mara Wallet app, register for a position on the Mara Wallet waitlist, invite an acquaintance (i.e. potential Referee) to register to the Mara Wallet waitlist through the user’s unique code—found by tapping on the “Earn” button at the bottom of the app’s home screen—and ensure that both the Referrer and the Referee complete all activities set out below.

There is no limit to the number of people a User can refer. The greater the number of successfully referred people, the greater the Reward the Referrer can earn. Earned Rewards are uniquely allocated to the Referrer.

What does the Referee need to do for the Referrer to earn the Reward?

For the Referrer to be eligible for receiving the Reward, the Referee must be eligible for this Promotion and earn a position on the Mara Wallet waitlist by using the Referrer’s unique referral link. Following Launch, the Referrer and each Referee must successfully complete the email and phone number verification flow. This means that:

Each Referee must register to the Mara Wallet waitlist by using the Referrer’s unique referral link. Someone who has previously signed up will not earn the Referrer a Reward.

If a person begins registration with one Referrer’s referral link, but then clicks on a second Referrer’s referral link before finalising registration, the Reward will go to the owner of the second link.

Once the Launch is announced, the Waitlist onboarding process will commence. It requires the completion Mara’s KYC/onboarding checks. If the Referee fails any of Mara’s onboarding checks, the Referrer will not be eligible for a Reward for that particular referral.

The Referrer will not be paid a Reward (or may have a Reward that has been previously accrued reversed) if the Referee reverses a step after taking it, for example, if they immediately close their Mara Wallet account after opening it.
