Old Naija…………. Wouldn’t one be disappointed to hear a Nigerian student say Nigeria gained independence in 1958 or Dubar festival is celebrated in Western Nigeria? In the struggle to prevent such an instance, OldNaija was established.

OldNaija is the home of Nigerian history and culture with the aims of:

• documenting notable moments and memories of Nigeria;
• preserving the culture and traditions of Nigerian ethnic groups;
• and providing a research and learning platform for Nigerians at home and in diaspora.

OldNaija go beyond the lines to unearth historical events in Nigeria and document Nigerian traditions for the good of Nigerian and foreign students, historians, archaeologists, researchers, tourists and so on.

OldNaija was founded in 2014 by Teslim Opemipo Omipidan, an award winning Nigerian writer, poet, journalist and blogger whose love for Nigerian history and cultures remains unrivaled.

Teslim Opemipo Omipidan won the ‘upcoming blogger of the year’, NAMACOS, AAUA, in 2016 and then ‘Blogger of the year’, NAMACOS, AAUA, in 2017 in recognition of his efforts in preserving and promoting the history and cultures of Nigeria by documenting them on OldNaija. He was also nominated as one of the 100 most influential Nigerian youths in 2018 alongside Flaz, Omojuwa,  Simi and others.

OldNaija has different categories created to meet the various needs of readers. For instance, students of various institutions and levels can make use of the ‘History’ and ‘Current Affairs’ categories to solve assignments and prepare for examinations as well.
