INEC Declares PDP Winner in Bauchi As APC is Defeated | Bauchi Supplementary Election
INEC declares PDP winner in Bauchi as APC is defeated in 2020.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been trounced in the supplementary election conducted by Nigeria’s election umpire in Bauchi for the House of Representatives.
The party was defeated by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state as its candidate, Hon Auwal Jatau, was announced victorious at the poll which was carried out on Saturday, January 25, for the Zaki federal constituency. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the outcome of the exercise was announced by Ahmed Kutama, a professor at a federal university in Jigawa state and INEC officer for the voting exercise.
According to Kutama, the PDP candidate scored 15,405 votes while his co-contender, Umar Tata of the APC, had 15,307 votes.
It was learnt that a total of 20 candidates contested for the position on the platforms of various parties. Meanwhile, Aschoolz.com had reported that in Akwa Ibom, the rerun allegedly took a sour turn as officials of the electoral body in charge of the poll were said to have been held hostage inside a public secondary school.
The development was confirmed to journalists on Saturday, January 25, by Don Etukudoh, INEC’s spokesperson in the state. Etukudoh said that the officials were held hostage in Independent High School, Ukana, located in the ward of the minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio.
Raising fears about the action against his people, Etukudoh said: “They are still being held hostage right now.”
