When asked for comment about the death, the Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Prof. Chris Bode, had told our correspondent that only the Lagos State Commissioner of Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, could provide the answer.
The commissioner did not respond to our correspondent’s sms, nor did he answer his phone calls.
A LUTH source told our correspondent that the patient, a 55-year-old male, had withheld the truth about his COVID-19 status, and had only revealed it shortly before he died on Friday.
The source said the patient tested positive to COVID-19 after a postmortem PRC test showed that he had the viral disease.
The patient had presented at LUTH with severe health conditions that included ‘malaise’ and ‘lupus’ on Thursday evening, having returned to Nigeria two weeks before his visit to LUTH on Thursday.
Our source said the man developed complications during treatment, and had died not long after he revealed his hitherto concealed COVID-19 status.
